Frequently asked questions

About PantanOS and Spain's reservoir data.

What is PantanOS?

PantanOS is a free mobile app that shows the status of Spain's reservoirs using MITECO's official data. It brings together each reservoir's water level, fill percentage, historical trend and comparisons in a single dashboard.

Where does the data come from?

All data comes from MITECO's Weekly Hydrological Bulletin (the Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition). Our server downloads and processes the bulletin; the app never contacts MITECO directly.

How often is the data updated?

Once a week, following the publication of MITECO's Weekly Hydrological Bulletin.

Which reservoirs are included?

It includes every reservoir covered by MITECO's bulletin, organised by river basin, autonomous community and province so you can browse from the whole country down to a single reservoir.

Is it free?

Yes. PantanOS is free and supported by ads shown through Google AdMob.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The app stores the latest downloaded data on your device, so you can check your reservoirs' status even without coverage.

Is it available for iPhone and Android?

It is already available for Android on Google Play. The iPhone (iOS) version is coming soon.

Does it collect personal data?

No. PantanOS requires no sign-up or user account. Your favourites and, if you enable it, your location stay on your device and are never sent to any server. You can read the details in our Privacy Policy.

What is the historical percentile?

The historical percentile shows how a reservoir's current level compares with its own historical records for that same time of year. It tells you whether the reservoir is fuller or emptier than usual.

Can I compare different years?

Yes. PantanOS shows trend charts comparing the current year with the previous one and with the 10-year average.
